No. You can self refer to Medical Weight Solutions. However, we do encourage you to follow-up with your GP as obesity treatment is a lifelong journey.

Yes. We offer appointments via Zoom/telephone calls. You may make an appointment anywhere from New Zealand. However, if you live outside of Auckland, you will need to have a consultation with your own GP and fill a medical questionnaire before your consultation at MWS. This is to ensure you have the right investigations (e.g. blood tests, measuring blood pressure, accurate measurement of weight) and to ensure that your GP is also involved in your treatment process.

Combined intensive lifestyle changes + current available anti-obesity medications (semaglutide 2.4mg) lead to around 15% of average weight loss in trials for patients with no diabetes.

However, the statistics represent averages within a population. Some patients who find the ‘right’ medications often lose more than expected. What is important to know is that sometimes medications work really well for some people and sometimes not. It is important to keep exploring and trying!

Patients who choose to undergo bariatric surgery are expected to use 60-70% of their excess weight. For example, a patient who is 160cm tall, weighing 100kg, BMI 39, has an excess weight of 36kg. This means with bariatric surgery, this patient will expect 20-25kg of long-term weight loss with surgical treatment.
