Meet the team

Chaey Leem

Bariatric Physician

Chaey Leem is a NZ-trained medical graduate from the University of Otago. He has a strong passion for treating obesity and making a difference for his patients. Chaey started his journey as an obesity doctor by being inspired by experienced bariatric surgeons Mr Michael Booth and Mr Hisham Hammodat. He saw the life-changing effects of bariatric surgery on his patients and decided to continue down that pathway.

He is a SCOPE*-certified obesity doctor endorsed by the World Obesity Federation and an ANZMOSS recognised bariatric physician. He currently works at Surgical Weight Solutions, and at the local public bariatric clinic at North Shore Hospital. He also practises as a general practitioner at The Doctors Apollo.

Chaey provides a warm, non-judgemental treatment approach to obesity and its related complications. He will provide you with a well-rounded assessment and patient-centred treatment plan. He is prepared to discuss all aspects of obesity treatment with you, including lifestyle changes, behavioural changes/psychology, medications, and bariatric surgery.

Victoria Liang

Dietitian. BSc, MHSc (Nutrition and Dietetics)

Victoria is a Registered Dietitian with over 7 years' experience working with a variety of medical and surgical specialities including chronic kidney disease, diabetes, and bariatric surgery. 

Victoria grew up in Hamilton and undertook her training at the University of Auckland where she completed her Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Food Science and Nutrition, followed by her Master of Health Science (MHSc) in Nutrition and Dietetics with First Class Honours.

After completing her studies, she returned to Hamilton to gain valuable experience at Waikato Hospital. She later moved back to Auckland, where she served as a Senior Clinical Dietitian at Middlemore Hospital, specialising in both bariatric and renal care. In addition to her clinical work, Victoria took on the role of Dietetic Student Clinical Coordinator, mentoring and supporting the next generation of dietitians.

Currently, Victoria is in private practice, where she is dedicated to forging meaningful relationships with her clients. She is passionate about providing personalised, evidence-based nutrition advice tailored to each individual’s needs, ensuring that their dietary goals are both sustainable and achievable.

Catherine Kissel

Psychologist

Catherine is a registered psychologist with a specialist interest in addictive behaviours and mental health. Catherine has most recently worked in Waitemata DHB mental health and addictions services in a clinical leadership role. She has lectured in clinical courses at AUT and the University of Auckland and maintains a position as an external examiner with the university.

Catherine has worked with our sister clinic ‘Surgical Weight Solutions’ since 2005. She regularly attends conferences, updating her knowledge base and maintains international contacts in the field.

Catherine is available for support and consultation throughout the process of weight loss, from the time of deciding to have medical/surgical treatment through to troubleshooting in the future. This includes initial assessment/support prior to beginning your weight-loss journey, support during weight loss/post-surgery, and at the phase of weight maintenance. Catherine is looking forward to meeting you to achieve your goals and guide you through the transition phase into durable long-term weight loss.

Heather Bae

Practice Nurse Manager

Heather is a registered nurse with a kind, caring, patient-centred approach to her patients. She is a proud mother of two young boys and enjoys spending time with them. Heather will make sure that you are well supported at Medical Weight Solutions and ensure that your journey is a seamless process.
